Created circa 1900, this Belle Époque sapphire and diamond necklace is composed of diamonds and large sapphires, and is convertible into two bracelets. It is mounted with thirteen oval and cushion-cut sapphires, approximate total weight 92.00 carats, spaced by pairs of curving platinum-topped gold links set with old mine-cut diamonds, approximate total weight 5.00 carats. Expertly crafted to sit softly and lightly on the neck, this delicate period necklace compliments the eyes and face with its abundant sweet blue gems and sparkling diamonds.

Ceylon (Sri Lanka) sapphires of this size and color were once more abundant. Shortly before World War II, Parisian houses began to find that the highly saturated gemstones they were once able to purchase with their superior knowledge and decades long connections were becoming simply unavailable. Sapphires and even once plentiful aquamarines fell into this category. It was Van Cleef & Arpels that first showcased large blue and yellow Ceylon sapphires in soft hues in their "Passe Partout" tubogas flower jewels. Today a matched set of natural sapphires is nearly impossible to assemble.
